In the morning after breakfast we walk out from Chouila and head up to the col de Marmare and ascend onto the plateau de Sept Cases visiting the rocher de Scaramus before heading back to Chez Arran. This is the territory of one of the bears that was re-introduced to the area and we will talk about how animals and agriculture co-exist in the region. Route meanders between mountain forest and large snow-covered plateaus with splendid views of the Pyrenees mountains. We will eat dinner at Chezarran or a local restaurant.

Join us for three days snowshoeing based in the French Pyrenees. Choose from walking through magical beech woods, scaling a summit or discovering ancient mountain “orris” shelters. Cathar culture, frozen mountain lakes and waterfalls will all be part of the adventure. You’ll have the option to visit a thermal spa with indoor and outdoor sections, many jets, pools and waterfalls, plus a sauna and hamman.

We offer the 3 days for €395/person including accommodation and spa access for 1-3 people if you would like to join us locally at 9.30am on the first day of snowshoeing. This doesn’t include airport pick up and drop off.
Group reductions
For larger groups of 5-8 people we work from £35/person/day. We need at least 1 weeks notice to be able to provide the equipment and itinerary.

3 days snowshoeing based at Ax-les-Thermes or Ornolac Ussat les Bains including walking through magical beech woods, scaling a summit or encountering mountain “orris” ancient shelters. Option to visit a thermal spa with indoor and outdoor sections, many jets, pools and waterfalls to explore plus a sauna and hamman.
We visit a high mountain refuge in winter for mulled wine and dinner (according to conditions.)
Ax-les-Thermes is a lively spa town with a thermal spa, wine bars and a night club so our guests always have a fantastic time. You can take a little time to explore the cobbled streets, find natural thermal sources and of course sniff out local farm shops where tasty cheeses and jams are on offer. We will certainly spend some time here!

- All snowshoe equipment – each client is required to have snowshoes and poles. We may also supply a snow shovel, probe and avalanche transceiver (a radio beacon allowing search and rescue) depending on walk location and conditions.

Plateau de Saut & Sept Cases

Day 4
Pic de Tarbesou (2346m) or Porte de Puymorens
Today we will head up to Ascou-Paiheres and pic Tarbesou 2364m, 5 hrs +700m or drive up to the magnificent Porte de Puymorens on the Andorran border. There is an amazing 360 panorama from Tarbesou which can be climbed in approximately 3 hours. For the Col de Puymorens we can either go up a stunning wide valley towards the Coma i Portella d’en Garcia or the Pic de la Mina (2683m). We will follow the best conditions! We will eat in the lively town of Ax Les Thermes with its cobbled streets and thermal springs walk.

Rest morning in Ax les Thermes. Visit the amazing thermal spa or request a trip to Orlu nature reserve and/or the Wolf Park. Yes you deserve a massage, to check out the cobbled streets and sulphurous thermes trail.
